Review Summary: Angel Beats! is a pretty classic anime that covers a wide range of genre, tastes, and preferences. It is easy to get into, and will most likely having you both crying and laughing. It does suffer from plot inconsistency and underdevelopment of characters, though.

Review Summary: With a cast of characters who develop and grow with the audience and accompanied by great animation and soundtrack, Ano Natsu de Matteru has a lot of good things going for it. However, it does not stand out much as the slice of life that it is due to flaws in its story execution.

Review Summary: Another is a fairly unique horror anime.  It often leaves you in suspense and wanting to know what happens next.  What hurts it the most is its characters, it kills off characters quite randomly leaving you with a dissatisfied feeling at points.

Attack on Titan

Review Summary: With faulty storytelling and sloppy character development, Attack on Titan surprisingly manages to overcome its major and obvious flaws. It does this through an interesting premise, deep themes, and incredible soundtrack.

Attack on Titan Season 2

Score: 8.4/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: While it improves on several aspects such as plots and themes over the original, Attack on Titan Season 2 suffers many of the same pitfalls and even has few issues exclusive to it.

Bincho-tan

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: All around being very cute, Bincho-tan accomplishes in what it sets out to do by providing a relaxing yet playful anime experience. The extremely slow pacing and lack of depth in plot and characters make this show not for everyone though.

Black★Rock Shooter

Score: 8.2/10

Review Summary:  With lots of action and generally being over the top with all that it does, Black★Rock Shooter offers an anime rich in themes compounded by interesting animation. The chaotic nature of the show leaks into the plot to poisonous degree, however.

Blue Exorcist

Score: 8.8/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: A well crafted anime when it starts out, and while it flounders at the end, still keeps itself well afloat with awesome animation and soundtrack. A strong recommendation for any action or supernatural fans.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou

Score: 7.8/10

Grade: C

Review Summary: While the animation for Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou is absolutely gorgeous and standout, the rest of the show feels a bit generic between the characters and soundtrack, keeping it from true greatness.

Bounen no Xamdou

Grade: A

Review Summary: Bounen no Xamdou is comparable to a cinematic experience, with excellently put together and interesting characters, plot, and soundtrack. However, the difference typical anime and heavy engagement required from the viewer can make this anime a challenging watch.

Charlotte

Review Summary: While there is plenty of high emotion coupled with excellent animation and soundtrack in Charlotte, it flounders with numerous plot and characters flaws. The anime is by no means a drag, however, and easy to enjoy.

Clannad

Review Summary: Emotionally crafted with strong themes and moving soundtrack, Clannad earned its title as one of the top cry anime easily. Yet, it is still painfully slow and the generic plot can make the show hard to enjoy for any other reasons than an emotional high.

Review Summary: Clannad: After Story is a massive improvement over its predecessor in most, if not all, regards. It is not without flaws, but still deserves all the praise heaped upon the anime.

Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken

Review Summary: While the humor is certainly not for the faint of heart, Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken is an interesting anime short that explores some good themes presented through well put together characters and quick humor.

DearS

Grade: F

Review Summary: The anime DearS is primarily an ecchi for ecchi sake, and as such should not be watched seriously. If one stays close attention, you can catch some of the decent and subtle themes.

Death Parade

Review Summary: Death Parade offers a complexity of characters and themes within its ever well maintained somber atmosphere. However, the series can seem to drag with slow plot development and excess characters.

Diabolik Lovers

Score: 5.2/10

Grade: F

Review Summary: With its only true redeeming quality being animation, Diabolik Lovers leads the viewer into a terrible plot and overload of fanservice, despite implying with many elements that it is actually something it is not.

Di Gi Charat

Review Summary: Di Gi Charat was designed as anime that was meant to fun and random, and accomplishes this, but at the cost of a lot of elements that would make it much higher quality.

Dream Eater Merry

Review Summary: While it deviates from the norm in many ways, Dream Eater Merry offers lot of potential with intriguing premise and themes to explore. The show is weakened, though, by not fully exploring the plot or characters.

Engaged to the Unidentified

Review Summary: Though the anime seems generic at first, Engaged to the Unidentified does well to show the best of the slice of life and romantic comedy genres, while adding its own bit of supernatural originality. The soundtrack and animation are big draws for this show.

Erased

Review Summary: Erased does an excellent job of building up its plot with an intense, suspenseful atmosphere and deep themes and keeps the viewer engaged. Unfortunately, the buildup is too much, resulting the store suffering a somewhat lacking ending and weak villain.

Fate/Zero

Review Summary: Season 1 of Fate/Zero is a bit of challenging watch with numerous plot issues among a few other problems, but for viewers who enjoy beautiful animation and strong characters will be well rewarded.

FLCL

Review Summary: FLCL is an anime that is all over the place, both in terms of plot and animation. However, the chaotic nature makes this series charming in a way, and throw in some deep symbolism and a fantastic soundtrack, and you have a decent anime.

Fruits Basket

Review Summary: Fruits Basket, despite its age, offers a charming story filled with a wide cast of characters that does not fail to entertain. However, the anime does have some obvious flaws in its plot.

Food Wars

Review Summary: Once one works through the excessive and sometimes strange fan service, a fun and brilliant anime can be found in Food Wars. Contained within the series is a unique premise, entertaining characters, and above all, delicious food.

Food Wars! The Second Plate

Score: 8.2/10

Review Summary: Food Wars! The Second Plate improves upon the previous season in many ways, such as deeper exploration of themes and characters. Yet, in doing so it loses some of what made the series what it is, most notably in the plot.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: While not the best mecha out there as a result of the stark and unnatural twists the show presents, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet still explores a plethora of themes and brings something a little different to the table.

Ghost in the Shell

Score: 9.4/10

Review Summary: Ghost in the Shell is without a doubt a complex and intriguing classic with a plethora of themes that any anime or sci-fi can enjoy, with few flaws that are easily overlooked.

Girls Und Panzer

Score: 8.0/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: Girls Und Panzer expands on the generic moe and sports anime formula to give a more unique experience with admirable detail to animation and themes. It is hindered by the more cliche elements it presents.

Heaven’s Memo Pad

Score: 8.2/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: A detective show that plays to its themes and animation well inspire a sense of awe at Heaven’s Memo Pad, though certain characters and plot particularities can feel very out of place.

Honobono Log

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: Honobono Log finds great beauty in the simplicity of relationships and its animation style. An excellent short for sure, though those who find cliche music bothersome or are overly lonely should steer clear.

Itsudatte My Santa!

Score: 6.2/10

Grade: D

Review Summary: Despite the decent soundtrack and impressive themes, they are not enough to save this too-quick anime from being rendered unremarkable. However, if nothing else, the novelty of being completely Christmas themed warrants it a watch.

Kanon

Review Summary: Kanon offers another emotional adventure from Visual Key, set in a fantastic winter wonderland. Viewers may find the anime off putting due to its tumultuous  and overused plot element and slightly unnerving character designs at times.

Kill La Kill

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: While the initial and excessive fanservice can be off putting, the show is really better than it first appears. The soundtrack and many twists of the plot help alleviate the negative aspects.

Lucky☆Star

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: Lucky☆Star is an anime full of cute moe girls with plenty of comedy and references to keep the more experience viewer easily entertained. It should be noted that this anime should not be taken overly seriously.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

Score: 9.2/10

Grade: A

Review Summary: Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica thrives on the contrasts that it creates within itself and between other magical girl anime. However, an over reliance on certain plot elements takes away from the overall show experience.

Mars of Destruction

Review Summary: Mars of Destruction accomplishes the impossible of failing on all fronts as an anime, or as entertainment in general. This anime is so bad, it is out right atrocious.

Momo Kyun Sword

Review Summary: Momo Kyun Sword offers little to its viewers besides excessive fanservice and good animation. Honestly, it is not highly worth the watch with poor characters and plot.

Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou

Score: 6.6/10

Review Summary: Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou is a semi-unique ecchi anime that offers well developed characters who are also monster girls, but it is lacking heavily in plot. The main positive points of the series are overshadowed by excess fanservice also.

My Bride is a Mermaid

Review Summary: Filled with plenty of references and knocks at common anime archetypes, My Bride is a Mermaid is an excellent example of a truly funny parody anime, but should be watched for entertainment only, as it has a weak plot and limited characters.

My Hero Academia

Review Summary: While generic in plot and themes, My Hero Academia is a fun watch infused with creativity and color in every scene that helps balance out its flaws.

Natsu-iro no Sunadokei

Score: 5.6/10

Grade: F

Review Summary: For an anime that had the goal to introduce likable heroines, Natsu-iro no Sunadokei fails because it leaves the plot in disarray with time travel and lacking character exploration.

No Game No Life

Score: 7.8/10

Grade: C

Review Summary: The series offers plenty of potential, with outstanding animation and a deeply interesting premise. However, No Game No Life loses too much due to excess fan service taking much from what should be strong elements in the show.

Noragami

Review Summary: While it does suffer from somewhat significant flaws in its storytelling style, Noragami easily redeems itself with complex and relatable character who each present deep themes to engage the viewers with.

Noragami Aragoto

Review Summary: Noragami Aragoto does something very few series can do in presenting a better second season than first, with great improvements in plot and soundtrack. However, it does slack with leaving a lot of details out, resulting in a heavily open ending.

One Punch Man

Review Summary: One Punch Man appeals to a lot of audiences with its action and parody focus, which is full of reference and positive themes. The characters and story arcs may feel repetitive at times, taking away from the show somewhat, and also suffers from being over hyped.

Onsen Yousei Hakone-chan

Review Summary: For a quick laugh with charming characters, look no further than Onsen Yousei Hakone-chan. Do not take the short too seriously, however, as it is weak in several aspects.

Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume

Review Summary: What makes this anime interesting is that it takes the typical post-apocalyptic setting and switches things around by creating contrasts in the animations and characters. Planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume creates a beutiful animated story of hope, even if the plot is lacking sometimes.

Review Summary: Setting itself apart from the typical drama with unique themes, Plastic Memories can still feel difficult to get through with predictable plot and generic characters.

Pokemon Origins

Review Summary: Pokemon Origins, while not real strong with plot or characters, provides an enjoyable watch for new and old fans of the Pokemon franchise. The animation and soundtrack really kick in a sense of nostalgia as well.

Recorder to Randoseru Do

Review Summary: Despite the awkwardness of the humor and the characters, Recorder to Randoseru Do works well as an anime short, making it even charming in some ways.

Romantica Clock

Review Summary: Despite all its numerous flaws, Romantica Clock is a still somewhat charming anime short that is a really easy and quick watch.

Rozen Maiden

Review Summary: While the series presents a rather interesting concept, Rozen Maiden is frequently unclear in what it is trying to do. This is evident in the soundtrack and heaviness of plot late in the series.

Rozen Maiden: Traumend

Review Summary: Rozen Maiden: Traumend improves heavily on the soundtrack and plot over the first season of Rozen Maiden. However, it still falls into similar traps, with a ending heavy plot and new characters being rather static.

Rozen Maiden: Zuruckspulen

Score: 8.6/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: Despite the apparent stigma, Rozen Maiden: Zuruckspulen excels in many points such as themes and characters that gives it its own charm. However, while it possess a very complex and interesting plot, it suffers many flaws in the execution.

Sankarea: Undying Love

Review Summary: Sankarea offers a unique zombie story that is a lush garden of themes and genres that combine rather well. However, the many minor flaws of the anime tend to pile up and detract from the series some what.

Santa Company

Review Summary: Despite the numerous weak points in its plot and characters, Santa Company still stands out as a high point in anime Christmas specials in a heartwarming and thematic way.

Seitokai Yakuindomo

Score: 7.2/10

Review Summary: Seitokai Yakuindomo is decidedly average, with the premise and jokes feeling repetitive and overused. The show does turn satirical at times, that make it a decent watch, so long as you are not uncomfortable with sexual innuendos.

Serial Experiments Lain

Review Summary: Much like the technology that is one of its major themes,  Serial Experiments Lain is complex in many regards, leaving much of the series up to the viewer to figure out. This can work against it, turning off some viewers when combined with the aged animation.

Shigofumi

Score: 7.6/10

Grade: C

Review Summary: Shigofumi offers a unique premise and with support from a fantastic soundtrack, it is able to excellently explore themes through its premise. However, its slow start with both characters and plot really hurt its potential and leaves the anime floundering.

Space Dandy

Score: 8.0/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: Not serious or even cohesive in the slightest, Space Dandy is a rocking adventure through a colorful universe, so long as you do not mind a very surface level series in just about every way.

Sunday Without God

Score: 8.8/10

Grade: B

Review Summary: The anime conveys a lot through its beautiful animation, soundtrack, and deep characters. Sunday Without God suffers from being truly great due to some inconsistencies in themes and difficult to resolve plot points.

Sword Art Online

Review Summary: While it has quite appealing animation and a strong start, Sword Art Online declines in quality storytelling and characters significantly over its run time. Action based fanservice seems to be the primary goal of the anime.

Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless

Review Summary: Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless maintains a relaxed atmosphere through soundtrack, animation, and straight forward storytelling. It can be somewhat bland to some viewers due to lack of deep themes and significant character growth.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Grade: B

Review Summary: Able to take advantage of time travel, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an excellent movie with plenty of heart despite getting weighed down with some poorly added plot elements and characters.

The Lost Village

Review Summary: The anime The Lost Village tries to do a lot with its few episodes, which makes it feel cluttered and forced at most turns. Its few saving graces include decent themes and semi-interesting character backgrounds.

The World God Only Knows

Review Summary:  The World God Only Knows offers a satisfying experience for any harem fan, or anime fan in general, with its refreshingly different take on the genre. However, its characters still suffer many flaws typical of a harem.

Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven

Review Summary: Tenkuu Danzai Skelter+Heaven deserves the title of worst anime, being terrible in all regards. It is so bad it is not even funny.

Tonari no Seki-kun

Review Summary: Despite being very repetitive, Tonari no Seki-kun proves to be a relaxing watch with its simple concept, characters, and animation that most people can find easily relatable.

Toradora!

Review Summary: Toradora! offers a traditional and classic romantic comedy that most people will enjoy, though the cliche and predictable nature of the plot could make the anime a turn-off to some.

Wagnaria!!

Review Summary: An enjoyable and easy comedy anime is the best way to describes Wagnaria!! However, it should not be watched with any kind of seriousness, because it does get bogged down by too many subplots and lacks in deep themes.

Winter Garden

Review Summary: Even with a surprisingly strong soundtrack, Winter Garden lacks holiday spirit contrary to what one might expect going into it, just as it lacks interesting characters and a convincing plot.
